Autism is a condition that some people have that makes their brains think differently. Around one in 160 children have autism worldwide. There are many types of autism, and it is different in each person. Girls might be quiet and try to blend in, and boys are normally focused on one subject that they like to talk about, but it can be reversed, or just different. Every autistic person is unique. People should care about autism because sometimes they act weird or silly, but people with autism still have feelings. It was discovered in 1911 by a German psychiatrist named Eugen Bleuler. Some people believe that Albert Einstein, Leonardo Da Vinci, Wolfgang Amadeus Motzart, Thomas Jefferson, and Hans Christian Anderson were autistic, though there is no way to know for sure, because most of them lived before it was discovered. There was little known about autism until recently, but scientists are still trying to learn more about it. For some people who have autism, it’s not that severe, but others need lifelong support. Autism begins in childhood, and you can't get rid of it, and there is no cure. Most people are diagnosed with it before they turn 5. Worldwide, people with autism are often discriminated against, and are subject to human rights violations. Environments for people with autism need to be more inclusive and supportive. Autism Speaks, an autism organization some people think to be good, doesn't help autism. It spends money on other things, like trying to find a cure for autism. Instead of the puzzle piece, which is offensive to autistic people because it suggests that they are a puzzle to be solved, the logo for autism is now the rainbow infinity symbol, which represents the diversity of the autism spectrum. There are many positive things about autism, such as people with autism are generally honest. They also appreciate many things and pay attention to detail. Most people with autism see things black and white, which means they see things as good or bad, right or wrong. While autism isn’t bad, there are many negative things about it, or having it. Most autistic people are bullied. Sometimes autistic people can’t or choose not to speak. They also have sensory issues, which means that light can be very bright, and sound can be very loud. A lot of autistic people don’t like being touched or hugged. It is really hard for autistic people to make friends, especially autistic girls. 86% of autistic adults are unemployed. One major negative thing about autism is that their average life expectancy is 36, while the world’s average is 72.6 years. The cause of death is often drowning. Level one of autism is quite mild. They sometimes have trouble in social situations. It is hard for them to understand body language. They are usually able to speak in full sentences and communicate. Level two autistics have more obvious problems with communication. They tend to speak in simple sentences. Children with level three autism have the same problems as the other levels, but this level is more extreme. It is hard for them to interact with people, and they mostly speak unintelligibly. Everyone stims in some way. Autistic people do it because it makes them relaxed and feel good. When a neurotypical stims, it is something like biting fingernails, twirling hair, cracking their knuckles or other joints, or drumming their fingers. They also do things like tapping their pencil, jiggling their feet, or whistling. Autistic stimming is a little different. They do things like rocking, flapping their hands, bouncing, jumping, twirling, pacing or walking on tiptoes, pulling their hair, repeating words or phrases, rubbing their skin, repetitive blinking and other movements, staring at lights or rotating objects, stroking particular objects, sniffing at people or objects, and rearranging objects. They are often signs of autism. Asperger’s syndrome on the Autism Spectrum. It has many nicknames, and they sometimes call themselves Aspies, Aspergirls, or Asperboys. It has many of the same characteristics of autism, but they have normal to high intelligence. Their IQ is average or above average. The most frequently diagnosed are children ages five through nine. They often avoid eye contact, and they have unusual thinking patterns. They are normally focused on one subject, and develop a high level of expertise in that area. For example, Greta Thunberg, an 18-year-old climate activist, is a girl with Asperger’s Syndrome. Greta Thunberg is an environmental activist. She was born January 3, 2003 in Stockholm, Sweden. Her full name is Tintin Eleonora Ernman Thunberg. She was diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome, and became interested in Climate Change, which she found out about at age 8. She became vegan, and missed a year of school, and inspired children to hold strikes in Belgium, Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Finland, Denmark, France, and the Netherlands. There are many famous people from the past and present who are or may have been autistic. Hans Chistian Andersoon, who wrote many fairy tales, may have been autistic. Albert Einstein, a famous scientist, could have had autism. People also think that Bill Gates, Lewis Carroll, Thomas Jefferson, Michalangelo, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Sir Isaac Newton may have been autistic. Temple Grandin is a famous autistic woman who has written several books on autism. The signs of autism were made for boys, so girls are less likely to be diagnosed with autism. Girls are more likely to be shy and quiet, while boys are focused on one thing, though girls can be too. Young girls have different interests than her classmates. Women and girls are more likely to be interested in literature, the arts, animals, and environmental activism. Girls try to blend in by mimicking what others do, and trying to blend in. They learn how to act in social situations. Normally that leads to exhaustion, withdrawal, anxiety, selective mutism, and depression. There are several myths that say that autistic women are not good mothers. That is not true. They can be better than most mothers and learn to connect with their children. Women with Asperger syndrome are especially good mothers. Autism is quite common, but not as common as dyslexia or ADHD. Asperger’s, on the other hand, is rarer. There are less than 200,000 children diagnosed with it each year. Around 1 in 160 children have it worldwide. Hong Kong is one of the countries with the most autistic children each year. It has a frequency of 372 out of 10,000 children. South Korea has 263 out of 10,000, and the United States has 222 out of 10,000 children. However, in Poland, Taiwan, and China, autism is quite rare. In Poland, only 3 out of 10,000 children are autistic. Autism diagnoses were rising in 1997. At that time, around 1 in 2,500 children were diagnosed with autism. Now, it’s around 1 in 160 children. In 1997, children were around 4 years old, and 4 months old when they were diagnosed with autism. Now, children are around the age of 3 years, and 3 months when they are diagnosed with autism, but autism can be diagnosed as early as two.
